TM News can authoritatively report that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has finally agreed to extend the tenure of its National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi.
The extension of the tenure is expected to be confirmed at the non-elective convention of the party which is presently ongoing today, Saturday, August 12, 2017.
Disclosing this to TM News at Eagles Square, Abuja, a Katsina State PDP Youth Leader, Comrade Adamu Kabir Matazu said the convention was aimed at ratifying some important amendments to the party constitution and extending the tenure of the National Caretaker committee by three months.
“It's a non-elective convention which is aimed at ratifying some important amendments to the party constitution and more importantly to extend the tenure of the National Caretaker Committee with about three months.” He said.
He added that, “It is instructive to know that the tenure of the National caretaker committee will expire next week Wednesday, so in order not to create a vacuum it becomes necessary to extend the tenure of Makarfi led committee in order to have ample time to plan and prepare for an elective convention that will usher in the next set of National Executives of the party.”
Recall that the PDP crisis was recently resolved after the Supreme Court sacked Ali Modu's Sheriff Faction as National Chairman of the party.
It was also learnt that the setting up of a standing disciplinary committee was informed by the need to address mounting pressure by key party leaders, to sanction all those who played negative roles during its prolonged crisis.
On constitution amendment, the party during the NEC meeting directed that draft copies be circulated to members to study before the non-elective convention.
